What is ABWA?
ABWA is the fourth largest women's professional group in the United States. ABWA is the educational and networking resource for professional women. ABWA's national headquarters are located in Kansas City, Missouri. ABWA is comprised of over 80,000 members since 1948. ABWA was founded by Hillary Bufton Jr. as a result of his foresight concerning women's needs in the work place.
ABWA recently announced the Women's Instructional Network (WIN)™ , an interactive on-line community designed especially for ABWA. WIN delivers professional development courses, tools and resources as well as a specialized networking tool to keep members up to date on Association news. |
Membership
The Greenspoint chapter is a traditional chapter offering a strong community service and philanthropic focus, with monthly meetings centering on educational, networking and fund-raising programs. Chapter members gain valuable experience and leadership skills in a supportive environment by managing meetings, working on committees, managing fund-raising projects and speaking at chapter functions.
The cost to join ABWA-Greenspoint is prorated monthly based on local annual dues of $48, and the annual national ABWA Dues of $90. This includes a $15 WIN Technology Fee to provide members with exclusive access to the WIN network. For membership, please download the application form below.

Houston Area Council of ABWA
The Houston Area Council (HAC) of ABWA consists of 21 ABWA Chapters in the city of Houston.
The mission is to promote involvement among participating Chapters and Express Networks.
The HAC meets quarterly at the Hess Club on the 4th Monday of January, April, July and October. See our Links page for the HAC Web site. |
Education
The Greenspoint Chapter of ABWA is committed to the education of its members. We have educational programs with topics of interest for our members at our monthly meetings. We conduct a new member orientation twice yearly for our members to become more familiar with ABWA.
We encourage our members to attend our ABWA Spring Conference and National Conference both held yearly. We also publish a Chapter newsletter with educational articles and share notes on seminars attended by our members at conference. |
Greenspoint Chapter Facts & History
The Greenspoint chapter was founded in May, 1990. We focus in on the member's personal and professional growth: including the exploration of educational opportunities.
Our chapter supports "Dress for Success" and we participate in the annual spotlight on Business Associates.
The Greenspoint Chapter is a past recipient of the National Star Award and Spring Conference Newsletter award. We have awarded many local and national scholarships. Our chapter is a member of the Federation of Houston Professional Women. Members of the Federation of Houston Professional Women. All of these benefits are available to chapter members.

ABWA Business Skills Tuition Reimbursement Program

The deadline for submitting an application for reimbursement is June 1, 2010.

ABWA Outright Grants Program

Guidelines for LNH Scholarship provided by Greenspoint ABWA:
- Applicant(s) must submit a letter of need to the Greenspoint ABWA executive board for approval
- Applicant(s) must be a Greenspoint ABWA member in good standing during the entire length of the LNH program course (current with both national and local dues)
- Greenspoint ABWA LNH Scholarship Funds will be split equally among all qualified candidates
- LNH fees will be paid directly to LNH by the Greenspoint ABWA
- The recipient(s) will be required to submit a deposit (personal funds) of one half of the value of their scholarship to Greenspoint ABWA. Recipient will be reimbursed upon presentation of their graduation certificate, provided they are a member in good standing. If the course is not completed, the deposit is forfeited.
- Partial scholarship recipients may apply for and receive additional scholarships from outside sources to help pay for the LNH Program, but they must not accept other scholarships that would exceed the total cost of the LNH program. If they receive a full scholarship elsewhere, they will relinquish the Greenspoint ABWA funds back to the chapter.

In 2009, ABWA announced a new interactive online community designed especially for the American Business Women's Association. WIN delivers professional development courses, ABWA tools and resources, as well as a specialized networking tool to keep individual members and local chapters and Networks up to date on the latest Association news.
